“THE TRUTH IS: THE NATURAL WORLD IS CHANGING.

AND WE ARE TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON THAT WORLD.

IT PROVIDES OUR FOOD, WATER AND AIR.

IT IS THE MOST PRECIOUS THING WE HAVE

AND WE NEED TO DEFEND IT”

- David Attenborough

How many images popped into your head by just hearing the word environment? Did a thousand ideas pop in your head? I definitely had a couple. When it comes to the word environment there are so many things we can attach to it, be it pictures, events, or writing. Just as I was writing this I thought about a luscious field, I thought of trees, then paper, which finally leads to books and then the process in which trees are cut (clear-cutting, shelterwood logging, selective cutting) and then to the habitats that need those trees, and finally the microorganisms that keep the soil fertile.

There are many types of mindsets that form when the topic of environmentalism comes up, some people want to save the environment, others are skeptical and want to know more about how exactly humans have an impact on the changes going on in the environment.

I am one of the people who believe humans have had a huge impact on the fluctuations in the temperature, sea levels rising, ozone layer depletion, ocean acidification leading to bleached coral reefs, and irregularities.

I have always been interested in the environment, and my curiosity has led me to the discovery of human impact on the environment and what measures we must take in order to protect it.

New discoveries are made every day and many companies are starting to change the way they create and distribute products that they may have previously sold through unsustainable means. These feats are difficult for companies especially when unstainable products are much cheaper and easier to produce but as the word sustainable becomes more widespread, we see companies slowly taking the initiative to become more sustainable.

My name is Arisha, I am a University student trying to navigate my way through life and gain an understanding of topics I’m interested in and hopefully use the knowledge I acquire to inform others. In this blog, my goal is to explore topics that relate to the environment while learning for myself. Who knows, I may inspire someone to think a bit more about their impact on the environment.
